The Short Version

Downbeat has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Everything the app hears or analyses, from your tuning to the songs you import, is processed on your device. Nothing is sent to us, because Downbeat has no servers of its own.

Microphone

The tuner uses your microphone to detect the pitch of your instrument, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. Audio is analysed in real time on your device and is never recorded, stored or transmitted.

You can turn microphone access off at any time in your device's Settings. The metronome, Jam and Songs keep working without it.

Songs You Import

When you import a song, Downbeat splits it into vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other instruments, and detects its chords, key and tempo. All of this happens on your device using on-device machine learning. Your audio is never uploaded to us or to anyone else.

The separated tracks and analysis are stored in the app's private storage on your device and, if iCloud Sync is on, in your private iCloud account.

iCloud Sync

If you're signed in to iCloud, Downbeat can sync your songs and settings (such as tempo, click sound, instrument and accent colour) across your iPhone, iPad and Mac. This data is stored in your own iCloud account and handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. We can't see or access it.

You can turn iCloud Sync off in Downbeat's Settings, and manage or delete Downbeat's iCloud data in your device's iCloud settings.

Purchases

Downbeat Studio Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes your payment; we never see your name, email address or payment details.

We use RevenueCat to check whether your Pro subscription is active across your devices. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID generated by the app, your App Store purchase history for Downbeat, and basic device information (such as device model, OS version, country and app version). This is used only to provide and restore your purchase. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

What We Collect

Beyond the purchase information above, nothing. Specifically, Downbeat does not:

If you choose to share diagnostics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. These contain no personal information.

Children

Downbeat is suitable for musicians of all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Your Rights

Because your songs and settings live on your devices and in your own iCloud account, you stay in control of them: delete a song in the app, turn off iCloud Sync, or delete the app to remove its local data.

If you're in the UK or EU, you have rights under data protection law, including the right to access and to delete personal data. To request deletion of the purchase records held by RevenueCat, contact us at seb@sguerrero.dev.

Contact

Downbeat is developed by Sebastian Guerrero, who is the data controller for this app. If you have questions about this privacy policy, contact: seb@sguerrero.dev
